2004 EHR WfMS Tutorial Slide 15: Patient Encounter: Workflow Reference Model

(Take me to the beginning of these slides!)

For example, the process definition, the encounter definition is made up of activities such as “Get Patient”, the nurse collects the vital signs and a short chief complaint, checks allergies and current medication, and the role of physician: examination, assessments, orders, reviewing the billing codes and approving them. On the righthand side we have the actual [or 'enacted"] encounter. This patient comes in on a particular date, the nurse actually captures vitals, the nurse actually notes his allergies and medications. The physician actually examines hims, diagnoses, prescribes and bills.
